The hard-fighting Blue Jays won their first five games but they fell to the Berlin Center Bluedevils, 53-51 in an overtime and sudden death period.
The J-M Cagers played two other overtime contests, one with Goshen Union, the other with Southeast. Goshen won the overtime game 55 to 54. The Blue Jays won over Southeast in the other overtime contest 46 to 43.
Many of the games were close and very thrilling, to add up to a very colorful season.
The record of the Varsity was ten wins and seven losses for the season. Our Reserves did not have as successful a season. They won seven and lost ten.
As the regular season came to a close the Blue Jays went into the tournament with a record of ten wins and seven losses.
In their first game of tournament play, the Blue Jays pulled a surprise upset over the Poland Bulldogs, beating them 46 to 38. Having won their first game of tourney play, the Blue Jays went on to top the green and white of Goshen, 44 to 34. This victory placed Jackson in the finals with North Lima.
For the first time in history, the Blue Jays took the Mahoning County Class ?B? Championship, gaining a decisive victory over North Lima with a score of 40-29. Chuck Williams, a captain of the Blue Jay team was selected for the All-County Team.
